Mike Murray Dies in Soo City Hospital
Galva, Iowa, July 9 – Mr. Michael Murray, of Sioux City, and a former resident of the Galva community, passed away at the St. Joseph hospital at Sioux City, Sunday morning, June 29, following a stroke of apoplexy. Mr. Murray has been lingering in a serious condition for several days and death has been expected for some time. Mr. Michael J. Murray was born in Ottawa, Ill., in 1885 [1855], and moved to Chicago when a young man. When he was 28 years of age he moved to Ida County, locating near Galva, where he married and remained on the farm until 16 years of age when he and his wife moved to Sioux City, and located at 1316 Nebraska Street. Funeral services were held from the Cathedral of the Epiphany Catholic Church at 9 o’clock Tuesday morning, July 1. Burial was made in the mausoleum in Calvary Cemetery at Sioux City. Surviving are two sons, M. J. Murry, Roy Murray and one daughter, Mrs. Lou Spindler, of Galva, three brothers, J. J. Murray of Rock Rapids, J. L. Murry of Omaha, and Morris Murray of Storm Lake, and two sisters, Mrs. John Francis of St. James, Minn., and Mrs. John Hurley of Sanborn, Minn. Mr. Murray has always ranked among the substantial men of this community, and it is sad to give up one whose influence among men was always for good. Many friends from the Galva community attended the funeral.
