The following obituary of Robert H. Smith, a former Holstein man and prominent Mason appeared in last week’s issue of the Holstein Advance: Robert H. Smith was born near Ballyrouney, Ireland, on July 26, 1857 of Scotch-Irish Presbyterian ancestry. With his father’s family of seven sons and one daughter, he came to the United States in 1865, located in Illinois and later moved to Iowa. He graduated from the law department of the Iowa State University and practiced law in Dakota for a short time. Then he came to Holstein and practiced law here for twenty years. In 1904 he retired from the law practice and moved to Los Angeles, Calif. He was married in Holstein to Ida C. Johnson of this city, and this happy partnership continued until Saturday, October 11, 1930 at 5:00 o’clock p.m. His faithful and devoted wife survives him, and only one brother of the seven, Hugh B. Smith of Pacific Palisades, is now left. He was for many years a member of the First Congregational church, also held membership in the Eastern Star chapter, Alpine Lodge, Royal Arch Chapter and Sac City Commandary.
