Chris H. Ohlsen Sr. Resident Here Since 1900, Taken by Death
Death closed the weary eyes of Chris H. Ohlsen, an Ida Grove resident for more than a third of a century, on Monday, June 17, after an acute illness of more than two weeks. Mr. Ohlsen has been in failing health for many years but courageously fought his losing fight to the end.

He was the son of Nicholas and Karn Ohlsen, a member of a family group of twelve children, seven of whom have preceded their brother in death. He was born August 21, 1865 in the Danish portion of province Schleswig-Holstein. He came to America at the age of six years, residing in Chicago eight years, and then went to Walnut, Ill., where the family remained seven years. He moved to Schaller, Iowa in the spring of 1884. Mr. Ohlsen was married to Magdalene Meier, Sept. 6, 1886. They lived for a while on a farm near Schaller and come to Ida Grove in 1900.

To this union were born nine children, one of whom, Mrs. Cecelia Baird, died last year. The others are: Lena Mohrhauser, Danbury; Chris, Lake Preston, S.D.; Anna Hazlitt, Ida Grove; Clement, Sioux City; Joseph of Detroit; Caroline of Lander, Wyo.; Mary Richardson, Ida Grove. All the children came for the funeral excepting Chris Jr. who was here a week ago to take leave of his father.

Mr. Ohlsen is also survived by his wife and four brothers and sisters: C.P. Ohlsen, Schiller; C.H. Ohlsen, Iroquois, S.D.; W.P. Ohlsen, Melton, S.D.; Caroline Osmond, Sioux Falls.

Funeral services were held at the Sacred Heart church, Ida Grove, Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, in charge of Rev. Father Costello. The pall bearers were: Ed Perion, Peter Roeder, Ned Streck, James Kiernan, Thos. McDermott, and Robert O'Brien. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery.
