Frederick F. Zoch, 81 Passes Away On Friday, Sept. 20
Holstein – Frederick Ferdinand Zoch, son of Christopher and Henrietta Zoch, was born at Chicago, January 9, 1859. As a small boy he came to Preston, Ia., with his parents. He was baptized in the Lutheran church, instructed in the tenets of the Christian faith and by confirmation received into the Lutheran church at Spragueville, Ia. Here he grew to manhood. Sept. 17, 1891 he married Mrs. Dorothy Grosskrueger Bergman. This union was blessed with six children, all of whom survive their father. These are: Frederck Zoch of Cherokee; Mrs. Doretta Rathke of Galva; Miss Delia Zoch of Holstein; Mrs. Alvena Hefner of Cushing; Irvy Zoch of Holstein; Mrs. Linda Boisen of Early. He was also a real father to two stepdaughters, Mrs. Anna Schuett and Mrs Bertha Mohr of Holstein. Twenty-two grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren also survive him. In 1895 Mr. Zoch came to Holstein with his family. He engaged in the business of farming. Twenty years ago he was able to retire from active farming and acquired a nice home in Holstein where he lived until his departure. On Nov. 5, 1925 his beloved wife was taken from him by death. As the other children established their own homes, his daughter Delia kept house for him the remaining years of his life. Mr. Zoch was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church, one of the most regular of attendants at services and holy communion. In December 1939 his health began to fail and he had a siege of illness for a number of weeks. This left him feeble. Again he collapsed a few weeks ago. After a serious illness of two weeks and one day, he passed away at 3:10 the morning of Sep. 20. He attained the age of eighty-on years, eight months and eleven days. Burial services were held from the home and St. Paul’s Lutheran church, Monday, Sept 23 at two o’clock, Rev. Nath Matthers officiating. The remains were laid to rest in Holstein cemetery. The services were in charge of the Johnson Funeral Home. During the services in church, Mrs. A. J. Kahl and Miss Florence Utesch sang the hymns “I’m but a Stranger Here” and “O, Where is the Home of the Soul to be Found.” Mrs. Ernest Branco officiated at the organ. Casket bearers were Fred Meyer, George Lang, Henry Bergmann, Henry Voge, Hermann Bochmann, William Watters.
