Mrs. C. Barthel Dies Thursday; Has Been A Resident Of Grant Township For 46 Years
Anna Wilhelmina Barthel, nee Schoebel, was born Dec. 11, 1874, in Weissenfels, Thueringen, Germany. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in her native land. At the age of nineteen she left the land of her birth and together with her parents and other members of her family journeyed to America, coming to Ida County, Iowa, where she has resided ever since. On August 9, 1894 the deceased was united in marriage to Carl Barthel of Grant township. Seven children were born to this union, all of whom survive. From the time of her marriage until her death she made her home on the Barthel farm along the southern edge of Grant township.
Last Illness
For many years Mrs. Barthel had been physically weak. Her last illness was of short duration. On Tuesday of last week she became ill and although it seemed for a while that there was slight improvement in her condition, yet the Lord called home to heaven the soul of Mrs. Barthel at 5:45 Thursday afternoon. She attained the age of sixty-five years, six months and two days. Mrs. Barthel was a member of Trinity Lutheran Congregation of Grant township eve since she came to America. Although her health had not been of the best in the past years, yet she enjoyed nothing more than to attend the German service in the house of God. There are left to mourn her departure: four sons, Otto, Theodore, and Richard at home, and Carl of Battle Creek; three daughters, Mrs. Alma Wunschell of Ida Grove, Mrs. Ida Stoll and Mrs. Hilda Stoll of Soldier; eight grandchildren, three brothers, many other relatives who all loved her for her quiet, friendly concern and interest in their welfare. Mrs. Barthel was buried Sunday afternoon in the Grant Township Cemetery.
