Mrs. Mary Perion Dies Sunday; Had Been A Resident Of Ida County For About Sixty Years
Mrs. Mary Perion, resident of Ida County nearly 60 years passed away at her home Sunday afternoon, after a lingering illness of a year and a half. She was 85 years, 5 months and 17 days of age. Mary Jane Smith, daughter of James H. and Mary Smith, was born in Penn Yan, Yates County, New York, November 11, 1855. She moved with her parents from New York to Clinton County, Iowa where she grew to womanhood.
Married In 1882
She was united in marriage to John M. Perion, April 11, 1882. They moved soon afterward to Ida County, where they broke the sod and established a home. To this union nine children were born, four of whom died in infancy. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Lauretta Cahill and Mrs. Mary Cahill, Fort Dodge; Mrs. Emma Auchstetter, Omaha; Edward C. and Cyril R. Perion of Ida Grove. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Emily Crowley, 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death February 26, 1910. Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Church in Ida Grove Tuesday at 9:00 a.m.. A solemn requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. Theo. J. Perion, nephew of Mrs. Perion, assisted by Rev. John Hawley of Schaller, deacon and Rev. Clement Flannery, Ida Grove, sub-deacon. The funeral sermon was delivered by Rev. Hawley of Schaller. Interment was made in St. Patrick’s cemetery at Danbury, under the direction of the Hudgel Funeral Home. Pall bearers were: T. F. O’Connell, Lawrence Kiernan, Eugene Gal- [text missing in crease of paper], Roeder and William Thieltges. James Stephan and Miss Ruth Stephen took charge of the flowers. Relatives and friends who attended the funeral from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Cahill, Emmett, Stephan and Marion, Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Cahill, Maurice, Robert, Joseph and James Jr., W. J. Cahill, Mrs. Emma Cahill, Mrs. A. J. McNulty, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Sullivan, Fort Dodge; Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Perion, Manilla, P. T. Perion, Nemaha; Mrs. F. J. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lander, Sioux City; Mrs. Mamie Westendorf, Sioux Falls, S. D.; Mrs. Frank Zieser, Delmar, Ia., Edward Zieser, Misses Alderman and Rosenthal, Persia; Mrs. Kate and John Prost, Schaller, Mr. and Mrs. A. Koenig, Storm Lake and Wm. Auchstetter, Omaha.
