Mrs. George Porter
Mrs. George Porter died at her home in Ida Grove Thursday, January 6, after a lingering illness. The funeral services were conducted from the Church of God Saturday afternoon at two o’clock by her pastor, Rev. Thomas M. Funk, interment being in Ida Grove cemetery.
Victoria H. Parks, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Parks, was born at Boone, Dec. 16, 1858 and attained an age of 62 years and 20 days. She was one of a family of nine children all of whom are now dead but two brothers, David Parks of Boone and Thomas Parks of Frazier, Iowa. She was united in marriage to George Porter at Boone, Iowa, Feb 27, 1881. To them four children were born, three of whom survive: Mrs. Ethel Lawhead of Windom, Minn., Nettie A. and George V. of Ida Grove. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Porter came to Ida County and settled on a farm in Hayes Township, where they remained for many years coming to Ida Grove about sixteen years ago. Mrs. Porter was converted and united with the Hayes Chapel Church of God about 29 years ago and after coming to Ida Grove her membership was transferred to the Ida Grove Church of God where she continued in good fellowship until the time of her death. Mrs. Porter lived a quiet, consistent, Christian life, faithful in her religious conviction, unassuming and without ostentation. She lived for the good of her family and of her neighbors and for the glory of her Christ. She was a member of Eastern Star Chapter No. 337 of Ida Grove.
