Mrs. R. Lloyd, 34, Dies Sunday; Funeral Services For Former Resident Held Tuesday
Funeral services for Mrs. Ralph Lloyd, 34 year old Mapleton resident who passed away early Sunday morning in St. Joseph’s hospital in Sioux City following a brief illness were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Mapleton M. E. church, Rev. H. J. Bane, pastor of the church, officiated. Interment was in the Mt. Hope cemetery at Battle Creek under the direction of the Duschl Funeral home of Mapleton.
Roselyn McVinnau of Battle Creek, Harry Hart of Ida Grove, William Kendall, A. R. Kraft, A. W. Briggs and Joseph Koenigs of Mapleton, served at pallbearers.
Miss Evelyn Patrick, Mrs. Arthur Newbaum, Max W. Werner and John Bane sang “That Will be Glory for Me,” “Sweet Bye and Bye,” and “Goodnight Here and Goodmorning There.” Business houses were closed during the services.
Born in Ida Grove
Mary Jane Saunders, only child of Mrs. Maude Saunders and the late Alfred D. Saunders, was born October 3, 1905 in Ida Grove, Ia. She attended the public schools of Ida Grove and was graduated with the class of 1925. The same year she obtained a position with the Ida County Pioneer where she worked for two years. Then she took up nurses training at the Methodist hospital in Sioux City. She was married to Ralph M. Lloyd of Ida Grove on August 31, 1932. On March 1, 1934 they moved to Mapleton, opening the Lloyd Variety Store.
Joins Church
Mrs. Lloyd united with the Methodist church at Ida Grove at the age of 13. After moving to Mapleton she transferred her membership to the Methodist church here. Mrs. Lloyd has not enjoyed good health since in February of last year when she had the scarlet fever. She was taken seriously ill about two days ago and all that human hands could do with skilled physicians and special nurses, yet the life of a good wife and precious mother took its flight to a greater world.
Five Children
She leaves to mourn her loss her husband and five children, Ralph Saunders, Barbara Jane, Joanne Yvone, Georgia Bell and Donald Bert. She also is survived by her mother, Mrs. Saunders of Ida Grove and Mr. Lloyd’s mother, Dollie Lloyd, of Mapleton. Out of town relatives and friends attending the services included, Joe R. Lloyd of Anthon, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Shever of Battle Creek, John McCleery and daughter, Wilma, of Smithland, Leslie and John Bleakly of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Newell of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. Roselyn McVinnau of Battle Creek, Misses Amber, Pearl, Merle Frances, Edna, Fern and Viola Lloyd, I.V. Miller, Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Miller, Misses Vida and Frances Miller, James Bleakly, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hart, Mrs. Richard Varner, Mrs. Ralph Stewart, Mrs. Walter Perry and Mrs. Jenny Terhune all of Ida Grove.
