Mrs. O’Brecht Passes Away; Funeral Services Held On Monday Morning At Catholic Church
Another pioneer resident of this community in the person of Mrs. Kate O’Brecht, 82, was called to her eternal rest Friday night, January 26, at 8:10 o’clock.
Katherine Mehan, third child of Benjamin and Delia Mehan was born February 23, 1858 at Mount Morris, Ohio. She moved to Iowa when a small girl with her parents. She was united in marriage with Charles O’Brecht on July 3, 1863 and they resided on a farm in Grant Township until 1900 when they moved to Hayes Township and lived there until 1917 when she moved to Ida Grove. Mr. O’Brecht preceded her in death 31 years ago.
Invalid Seven Years
Mrs. O’Brecht had been an invalid for seven years and has got around in a wheel chair. She was of a happy disposition and spent the time with fancy work and piecing quilts until the past two years when her health failed, since August her decline has been rapid. She was a kind and loving mother and friend to everyone. She is the last one in her family and would have been 82 years old next month.
Those left to mourn are her five children, Mrs. Bessie Flanagan, Mrs. C. Schiernbeck, Mrs. Bernhard Hoffman, Mrs. F. Schiernbeck and a son, Benjamin O’Brecht of Kiron. Also 22 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Two granddaughters preceded her in death. A granddaughter, Mrs. Fern Phillis resided with her and cared for her. Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Church at 9:30 on Monday morning with Rev. Father Savage officiating. She was laid to rest beside her husband in the Catholic Cemetery.
