Battle Creek: — Joseph Patrick Stapleton, son of John and Hanora McNiff Stapleton was born April 28, 1878, at Battle Creek, Iowa. He passed away at the Battle Creek Hospital Tuesday morning, June 1, at the age of 70 years, 1 month and 3 days. He lived his entire life in this vicinity, with the exception of a few years spent in the West.

On June 12, 1916, he and Jane Sophia Hayward were married at Ida Grove and lived on the farm north of Battle Creek until his death.

He is survived by his widow; five daughters; Mrs. Harwood Rice of Kingsley, Mrs. Harrison Peters of Battle Creek, Lenora of Sioux City, Ellen of Des Moines, and Rose at home; one son, Joseph Patrick Jr., and two grandchildren, John and James Rice.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.

Funeral ¡services were conducted by Father H. E. Dailey at the Sacred Heart Church at Ida Grove at. 10 a. m Friday, June 4. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery in Ida Grove. Pall bearers ‘were Jed Campbell, Earl Mickelson, Fred Lundt. Ray Simmons Tom McDermott and Wm. E. Kennedy.
