Mrs. Helen Streck

Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Streck, 62, Ida Grove were conducted Monday afternoon, Aug. 21 at St. Paul Lutheran church with the Rev. Dennis Schultz officiating. Burial was in the Grant township cemetery, under the direction of the Christensen Funeral home.

Mrs. Streck died early Saturday morning, Aug. 19 while in route to a Sioux City hospital. She had received severe internal injuries in a two-car accident late Friday afternoon, Aug. 18 about three miles east of Battle Creek.

Mrs. Streck is the former Helen Ernst. She was born in Grant township and has been a resident of Ida county most of her life. She was married to the late Walter Streck Sept. 15, 1934, in Grant township and the couple lived on the farm until his death Dec. 9,1971.

Mrs. Streck moved to Ida Grove after her husband’s death and became involved in men’s and women’s bowling leagues. She served as both leagues’ secretary in recent years. She had been the organist for the Grant township Lutheran church for about 30 years before the congregation was disbanded. The church organ was given to her at that time as a gesture of appreciation.

Mrs. Streck is survived by a son, Ronald, and a daughter, Mrs. Joan Baker, both of Holstein, two brothers, Leonard Ernst and Raymond H. Ernst, both of Ida Grove; and eight grandchildren.
