Ralph Benson, former Ida Grove resident and state senator, died Dec. 22 at his home near Jefferson after an extended illness. He was 84 years of age. He was born on a farm in Ida County and attended school here before enrolling at Iowa State College where he majored in business and agricultural engineering. He represented Greene, Sac, and Carroll counties in the state legislature in 1938. He was reelected in 1942 and 1945. He retired from public life at the end of his third term. Survivors include his wife, daughter-in-law, and one grandson, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Benson, and other relatives.
