(April 18, 1857 - March 28, 1944)OBITUARY
Funeral services were held for the late Harry E. Conard Thursday at 2 p.m. at Moore Bros. funeral Home with Rev. H. E. Whyte officiating. Interment was in the Ida Grove cemetery.
Harry E. Conard, son of Peter and Sarah Ambler Conard, was born April 18, 1857 at Upper Merion, Pa. The family moved to Horsham, Pa. in 1861. They came to West Liberty, Ia. in 1875 and then to Ida County in 1878. For a time he made his home with a brother.
He was united in marriage with Mary Honor Price, Sept. 5, 1883. To this union 3 sons were born, two of whom, Morris & William preceded their parents in death.
They lived on a farm in Blaine Township for a number of years, then moved to Ida Grove where he conducted a grocery store and worked at the Ida Grove creamery, located where Henry Stamp now lives. In 1897 they returned to the farm and returned to town in 1905. Mr. Conard started as a rural mail carrier on Route 5 in 1911 and retired in 1931.
In Sept. 1933, Mr. & Mrs. Conard celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and their 59th in 1942. Mrs. Conard passed away in March 1943. Since then Mr. Conard has made his home with his granddaughter, Mrs. Marjorie Murray, in Sioux City and with his son, Raymond, here since Dec. 24 last year. He suffered a severe attack of flu and with complications never regained his strength. He died March 28, having attained the age of 86 years, 11 months, and 10 days.
He is survived by one son, Raymond Conard, of Ida Grove; nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Lilly Day of Huntington, Indiana, spent two months here assisting with the care of Mr. Conard and had just returned to her home.
Relatives attending the services from out of town were Mr. & Mrs. Vincent Murray, Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. Harlen Conard and Mrs. Jarrett Conard, Cherokee; Mr. and Mrs. Mark Seibert of Laurel, Nebraska. Era unknown date
