Viggo Madsen Brock, 79, was born in Olsted, Denmark. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church, in open country near Harshens, Denmark. He was the son of Jens Mickel Madsen Brock, a memer of the King's Guard in Copenhagen, and his wife, Johanna Christina Mortensen Brock, both of whom died when he was only ae 4. He was naturalized as an American Citizen in April 1925.

He passed away on March 8, 1975. Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church, Battle Creek, Iowa, with Rev. D. Stanley Tyner officiating. He died in the Hartley Memorial Hospital.

Coming to the United States when age sixteen, Viggo attended Business School in Mankato, MN., farmed in Canada for one year, returned to the States and became a life insurance salesman, attaining the status of District Agent with a general agency office in Ida Grove.

In June 1924, he was united in marriage to Grace Fowler of Battle Creek, and to this union were born 3 children, Basil, Robert, and Doris. Following the death of his wife, Grace, February 10, 1957, Viggo married Mrs. Minnie Sessler Hahn of Battle Creek, iowa.

Facts of interest include his being an insurance agent for 55 years, his military service in the Iowa State Guard, his helping charter the Battle Creek Lions Club on Nov. 20, 1938, his masonic work in the local lodge, the Mizpah Commandry, and the Syria Shriners, his affiliation with Benevolence Chapter 336 of the Eastern Star, the Knights of Pythias, his membership in Battle Hose Co. #1, his activity in the Ida County Red Cross for 30 years, his helping raise funds for his church, the Hartley Memorial Hospital and Willow Dale, where he was President of the Board, his service on the town council, and the more recent Town Beautiful Project for which Robert Ray personally thanked him in Des Moines, Iowa.

He leaves to mourn his death his widow, two sons, Basil Dean Brock of Bode, Iowa, and Robert Bruce Brock of Battle Creek; one daughter, Mrs. Jim (Doris) Funderburk of Des Moines; 8 grandchildren, and one great grandson; one brother, Martin Brock of Miltona, MN.; and one sister, Marrianna Brock of Denmark, and a host of kind friends and neighbors.

Viggo was preceded in death by his brother, Mad Madsen Brock and sisters, Carrie Brock Christensen and Louise Brock.
