Lorene Abbe, age 95, of Ida Grove, Iowa, died Sunday, September 26, 2004, at Carroll Health Center in Carroll, Iowa, where she has resided for the past four years.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 30, 2004, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverends John Schauer and Gary Scharrer will officiate the service, with burial to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Battle Creek, Iowa. Friends may call at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Ida Grove on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m., where the family will be present. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ida Grove.

Born November 30, 1908, in Grant Township, Ida County, Iowa, Lorene Anna Abbe was the youngest child born to William G. and Henrietta (Koch) Else. She was baptized as an infant at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grant Township, and attended Grant School #4.

On June 22, 1929, Lorene married Elmer E. Abbe, also of Grant Township. The couple made their first home four miles southeast of Battle Creek, Iowa, where three sons, Reese, Ross, and Rolyn, were born. In 1943, they moved to Logan Township where their fourth son, Reynold, was born.

The family moved back to Grant Township and eventually purchased their farm seven miles south of Ida Grove on old Highway 59. At this time, Lorene became an "Avon Lady" in Crawford, Sac, and Ida Counties. She also was active in the Grant Township 4-H.

In 1962, Lorene and Elmer moved to Ida Grove. In addition to her Avon customers, Lorene helped as desk clerk at the Deluxe Motel and was also active in mobile home sales. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, where she participated in the Ladies Guild and Dorcas Society.

Lorene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandson, Clark Abbe; a daughter-in-law, Karen Abbe; four brothers, Oscar, Herbert, Arnold, and Alfred Else; and two sisters, Leona Wellendorf and Ella Dutler.

Survivors include four sons and their wives, Reynold and Susan Abbe of Hansville, WA, Rolyn and Kathy Abbe of Bellevue, WA, Ross and Claudia Abbe of Bellingham, WA, and Reese and Jan Abbe of Carroll; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
