George Rupert
born Dec 29, 1848

George Rupert, a respected citizen of Ida County, resides in Logan Township, section 15, eighty acres of land. He was born in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, on December 29, 1849. Samuel Rupert, his father, a well-known descendant of an old Pennsylvania family, and his wife, mother of George H., nee Catherine Brown, was born in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, daughter of Henry Brown, native of that State. She died in 1872, leaving four children: George H.; Irene, who lives in York, Pennsylvania; Elizabeth Stofer of Logan Township; Mary, of Hayes Township. George H. was reared on the old farm in Pennsylvania, and in early life was taught that honesty and industry form the foundation of all true success. In 1879 he came to Iowa and located near Mt. Vernon, Linn County, and in 1880 came to his present location. Here he owns eighty acres of good land, improved with a story and a half cottage home, 22 x 28, barn, 24 x 30, grove, orchard, stable, etc.., all kept in first class order. At age twenty-three, he married Mary Whitman, who was born and raised in Pennsylvania, daughter of Jacob and Mary (Muser) Whitman. They have four children: Anna E.; Carrie; Milton; and George W. He and his wife are members of the Church of God at Logan Center, in which he is an Elder and active worker. He is also active in Sunday-school work, being an Officer in the school. He is a Republican.
