Morris Espeland, 51, of Fort Dodge, a former resident of Bode, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mercy Hospital Oct. 1 (1972) after he was found in his car parked in the rear of his home. The death was ruled as self-inflicted.

Services were held Oct. 3 in the chapel of Laufersweiler Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Birchmier, pastor of Epworth United Methodist Church officiating. Military graveside rites were conducted by the American Legion and Veterans of World War I.

Among survivors are his widow, Mary; three duaghters and a son: Mrs. Dan Kelgher, Fort Dodge; Jeanne, Shelly and Robert, all at home; three grandchildren; his parents: Mrs. and Mrs. Andy Espeland, Bode; brothers: Sleg Espeland, Fort Dodge; Obert Espeland, Mesa, Ariz.; and a sister, Mrs. Lloyd Irwin, Renwick.

Morris Espeland was born, reared and educated at Bode. He married Mary Dimler there in 1943. During World War II he served with the U.S. Air Force and after his discharge the couple settled in Fort Dodge. He had been employed by Gus Glaser Meats for 15 years. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church.
