Jerome VEDVIK 1913-1965

Funeral services for Jerome Vedvik were held Monday, August 2 (1965), at 2 p.m. at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode with the Rev. M.O. Kraabel officiating. Burial was in the St. Olaf Cemetery in Bode, with the Shellhammer Funeral Home of West Bend in charge.

Jerome, son of Ben and Hilda Nelson Vedvik, was born on April 13, 1913, near DeForest, Wisconsin. He came to Bode 26 years ago and worked on a farm. He served in the Medical Corps during World War II in the Pacific area and received the Distinguished Service Cross for meritorial service on the battlefield. At one time he brought back to the hospital from the battlefield one of Bode's own boys. Returning to Bode after the war he went into the trucking business until he became maintenance man and town marshal for Bode and continued this work for thirteen years, until his death.

On April 23, 1948, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Mitsven at Ft. Dodge. Jerome passed away Thursday, July 29, reaching the age of 52 years, 3 months and 10 days. He leaves to mourn his death his wife Bonnie, and daughter Geri. Also his mother, grandmother, four brothers and two sisters and many other relatives and friends.

During the services, Mr. Dale Vige sang "The Lord's Prayer" and "How Great Thou Art" accompanied by Mrs. David Engle. Casket bearers were Art Jenson, Ronald Olson, Gene Benjamin, Miles Helman, Arlis Kinseth and Keith Rolland. Mrs. Walter Bakken, Mrs. Orlando Grefstad, Mrs. Pearl Barber and Mrs. Garman Rolland were in charge of floral arrangements.

Relatives of Mr. Vedvik attending the services were his mother, Mrs. Hilda Vedvik, and sister, Mrs. Henrietta Anderson, with whom his mother lives; also a sister, Mrs. Kenneth Colby and son of DeForest, Wisconsin. Also, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Vedvik, Mr. and Mrs. Palmer Vedvik and three sons, and Mr. Nelson Vedvik all brothers of Mr. Jerome Vedvik. Another brother, from Chicago, was unable to attend the services.

Relatives of Mrs. Jerome Vedvik here for the services were her two brothers, Mr. and Mrs. O.D. Mitsven and family of Round Lake, Illinois, and Mr. and Mrs. F.E. Mitsven and family of Ft. Dodge, also two cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Nelson and family of Lynd, Minn., and Mrs. Viola Hartsman and son of Marshall, Minn. Many other relatives attended the services from distant parts of Iowa.
