John A. Johnson, 1853-1933

June 30, 1933 - Humboldt Republican - Funeral services for John A. Johnson, who died early Tuesday morning at the home of his niece, Mrs. Tony Penning of Dakota City, were held Thursday afternoon of this week at 2:30 o'clock, in the Springvale funeral chapel. The Rev. Thomas Lutman, Congregational pastor, preached the service. Mr. Johnson was seventy-nine years old at the time of death. For many years he was a farmer in Humboldt county moving from here to a farm in Staples, Minnesota. Two years ago he retired and since has been living with bis son Andrew in Fort Dodge.

He had recently come to Dakota City to visit in this vicinity and Saturday morning suffered a stroke. He failed to recover and died Tuesday morning.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his widow and nine children, Andrew of Fort Dodge; Marion of near Gilmore City; J.R. of Humboldt; A.W. and Mrs. John Shannon of Staples, Minnesota; Mrs. Edward E. Falvey and Mrs. Lena Bremmer of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. C.V. Carrier of Spirit Lake; and W.A. Johnson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

John married Susan Kimble in 1873 in Illinois. They were the parents of 12 children: William, Laura, Lena, Marion John, Mary, Minnie, John, Andrew, Arthur, Lewis,
