Knut J. Lomen was born in Valders, Norway on October 14, 1852. His parents were: Jorgen K. and Gertrude Kvale Lomen. He was baptized and confirmed in Norway.
He came to America (to Decorah, Iowa) on July 2, 1873 and stayed for some time with relatives there. After his father's death, the mother and her other children came to America and from 1879 to 1881, Knut lived with them, residing at Lake Mills, Iowa. Of a family of eight, only one brother also named Knut Lomen is now living, in California.
Mr. Lomen came to Bode in 1882. On December 31, 1882 he was united in marriage to Oline Kinseth of Bode. To this union seven children were born, all of them living and mourn his death. The children are: Louise (Mrs. George Lillo) of Lenby, MN; Julia (Mrs. H. M. Halvorson) of Bode; Gina (Mrs. Lars Mitsven) of Bode; Oscar of Clear Lake, Iowa; John, Henry and Clara (Mrs. Harvey Hagen) all of Bode. Mrs. Lomen passed away January 26, 1928.
Mr. Lomen for many years operated a black-smith shop, but as the village began to grow he engaged in building houses for the folks in this community. Until after his wife's death in 1928 he was busy at his trade as a carpenter. The last few years he has been troubled with asthma and has been forced from any hard work. Since in October last fall he had been a sick man and confined to his bed since the first part of February. He slept away on Tuesday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m.
Besides his children and one brother there are 15 grandchildren that mourn his departure.
Funeral services were held from the home Friday, April 24 and also from the church. Interment was made in St. Olaf Cemetery at Bode.
