Jeanne Marie (Behounek) Uhlenhake, 74, of Tempe, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on November 11, 1930 in Livermore, Iowa to Louis F. and Julia A. (Zeman) Behounek. Jeanne grew up and graduated high school in Livermore and attended Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, IA. She married her husband, Roger, in 1949 where they made their home throughout Iowa. She worked as a dental assistant and was the city treasurer in Evansdale, IA. In 1977 she and her husband moved to Tempe, AZ. Her Catholic faith was ever present and radiated from her so strongly that many sought her guidance as a moral and spiritual compass. Jeanne spent her entire life as a caregiver, first with raising her eight children and numerous grandchildren and later on tending to her disabled husband for 29 years. Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents; son, Craig; daughter, Mary Susan; and granddaughter, Shannon. Thankful for having shared her life are her husband, Roger J. Uhlenhake of Tempe; three daughters, Linda Kortuem of Phoenix, Dona Jordan of Waterloo, IA, Julie Mitchell, of Chandler; three sons, James Uhlenhake of Evansdale, IA, Patrick Uhlenhake of Tempe, Joseph Uhlenhake of Lake Tahoe, CA; brothers, Jerome Behounek of Casper, WY, Virgil Behounek of Minneapolis, MN, Dennis Behounek of Livermore, IA, Donald Behounek of Livermore, IA; 15 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and 2 step-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 24, 2005 at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E, Indian School Rd., Scottsdale, AZ from 5-8 PM with a rosary service starting at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, April 25, 2005 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 2121 S. Rural Rd., Tempe, AZ at 10:00 AM with burial to follow at Queen of Heavenly Cemetery, Mesa, AZ. Jeanne was an inspiration for all.
