Funeral services for Bernard Wichtendahl, 70, of Livermore were conducted by the Rev. Mark Peterson at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 8, in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Livermore. Burial was in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Whittemore. The Wilson Funeral Home of Livermore was in charge of the arrangements.

Bernard Wichtendahl, the son of George and Sophia (Harms) Wichtendahl, was born December 21, 1933, in West Bend, Iowa. He attended St. Paul Lutheran School and Whittemore High School, graduating in 1952. He then worked as a blacksmith for a time. On September 10, 1955, Bernie married Elaine Bruellman in Whittemore. He entered the U.S. Army and served in Germany. After he was honorably discharged, the couple moved to Ottosen, where he operated a well-digging business. Later, he worked as an electrician for a time before establishing Bernie's Plumbing, Heating and Electrical in Pocahontas and Livermore while making their home in Livermore. Most recently, he was head maintenance engineer for Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. After retiring in 1998, Bernie and Elaine began crafting and attended numerous craft shows. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Bernie Wichtendahl died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, at Livermore. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, two sons and their wives, Rodney and Julie Wichtendahl, Stillwell, Kan., and Kevin and Teresa Wichtendahl, Adel, and one daughter, Sheila, and husband, Terry Scroggins, Miramar, Fla., six grandchildren, two step-granddaughters, two brothers and their wives, Harlan and Beverly Wichtendahl, Council Bluffs, and Delbert and Elaine Wichtendahl, Whittemore, and six sisters, Lorraine Andersen, Cedar Falls, Florence, and husband, Leonard Frost, Yucaipa, Calif., Laona Jenson, Waterloo, Laura, and husband, Norman Prichard, Bellevue, Neb., Selma, and husband, Edward Cruise, Wesley, and Emogene, and husband, Harold Batt, Cedar Falls. His parents, one son, Leonard, one granddaughter, Melissa Wichtendahl, one brother, Henry, and one sister, Eleanor Burns, preceded him in death.
