Charlotte M. Tompkins, 84, died May 23 (2004), in the Humboldt Care Center North.

Funeral service for her will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, in St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. Paul Breddin officiating. Burial was in St. Olaf Cemetery at Bode, the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Bode in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Tompkins is survived by her husband, Tommy; five daughters and their husbands, Sandy and Garry Kraft of Bode, Nancy and Bill Mayhew, Rochester, Minn.; Barb and Larry Dunlavy, Newton; Ginny and Jerry Hawkins, Strawberry Point and Marlyce and Ken Lower of St. Louis, Missouri. She has 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Her parents and a brother, Palmer, preceded her in death.

Charlotte Molin Tompkins, daughter of Sophie Sandal and Osmund Watnem, was born April 8, 1920, at Humboldt. She graduated from Bode High School in 1937 and had played basketball at the Iowa State Tournament. Charlotte attended Hamilton Business College at Mason City and on May 17, 1940, was united in marriage to Tommy Tompkins. They lived at Humboldt and Bode before moving to the Watnem family farm in 1947. They farmed for 30 years, then toured the country delivering Winnebago Campers until 1980. They moved into Bode in 1981.

Mrs. Tompkins was a member of the St. Olaf Lutheran Church and the Bode American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed her family, sewing, dancing, playing the piano, traveling, organizing and cleaning.
