LIVERMORE-The Rite of Christian Burial was held for Wilfred H. Kohlhaas Friday, Dec. 1, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Joseph Catholic Church at St. Joe with Father Paul Eisele the celebrant. Interment was in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at St. Joe, the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home of Algona.

Casketbearers were Kyle Kohlhaas, Darci Kohlhaas, Josh Kohlhaas, Chris Kohlhaas, John Kohlhaas, Jeremy Kohlhaas, Jake Kohlhaas, and Kevin Coriolan.

Honorary bearers were Francis Bormann, Dwight Cook, Stan Klein, Allan Kohlhaas, Clete Studer and Leo Bormann.

Wilfred Kohlhaas died in the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa at Mason City at the age of 82.

The son of Kasper and Susie Bormann Kohlhaas, Wilfred H. Kohlhaas was born July 18, 1918 at Livermore; attended country school and boarded in St. Joe when he went to school there. He farmed at home with his parents before entering the service, and served in the U.S. Army from August 1942 to December, 1945. Wilfred served with the military police in the European African Middle Eastern Campaign, and after the service, began farming with his parents.

On April 22, 1947, he married Dorothy Gisch in the St. Cecelia Catholic Church at Algona, and after their marriage the couple moved to their present farm where they have lived since then. Wilfred studied for the Diocesan Deaconate and was a 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus member. He enjoyed raising horses and watching his children and grandchildren ride them. Also, he enjoyed doing cabinetry work.

Surviving him are his wife, Dorothy of Livermore; sons, Ron and Linda Kohlhaas, Macedonia, IL; Dwight and Iris Kohlhaas, Livermore; Daryl and Kathy Kohlhaas, and Harley and Anne Kohlhaas, all of Algona; and Paul and Sasha Kohlhaas of San Jose, CA.; daughters, Theresa Kohlhaas of Pella; and Carol and Ernst Coriolan of Worthington, MN.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and a brother, Raymond.
