David J. Coleman 1927 - 2002

David J. Coleman, 84, died May 2 2002, in the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital at Humboldt.
Funeral service for him was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 4, in the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Livermore. The Rev. J. K. Raether officiated and burial was in Union Cemetery with military rites by the Livermore American Legion. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt was in charge of arrangements.
David John, son of Thomas D. and Mary Alice Walker Coleman, was born July 26, 1917, at Ogden, IA. When he was six, the family moved to Irvington where David attended school. After receiving his education, he farmed with his father.
David served in the European Theatre with the United States Army during World War II. Following his discharge from the military, he returned home to the farm.
David was married to Maxzine Weiss September 24, 1954. They lived on the farm near Livermore all of their married lives. In the early 1960s, David started the Coleman Apple Orchard, which he owned and operated for many years. He became a resident of the Long Term Care Unit in January of 1999.
Mr. Coleman was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Livermore American Legion and a past member of the Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Maxzine; daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Michael Ryerson of West Des Moines and Janice and Scott Dickerson, Atlantic; sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Carol Coleman, Humboldt; Dale and Marlene Coleman, LuVerne; and Daniel Coleman, Storm Lake. There are nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Leslie, Clarence, Gerald and Wilford Coleman.
