Alfred Ernest Cook, better known to the many who knew him as "Ern" died at the home of his daughter Mrs. Mary Pease of Bradgate, Friday morning at 5'45 o'clock. Mr. Cook had been sick for two years and his strength had been steadily declining.

At the time of his death Mr. Cook was 74 years, one month and four days old and had lived in Humboldt Country in the vicinity of Rutland for 55 years. He is preceded in death by his wife who died 14 years ago last spring,one son Harry L. Cook, the thrid oldest boy who was killed in Des Moines 20 years ago, two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mr Cook was born in Ehbro, Ontario, Canada, July 11, 1856. He came as a young man to Rutland in 1876 accompanied by James Oxborrw, father of Jim Oxborrow of Humboldt, and A.H. Gregory of Rutland. August 15, 1877, he was married to Hattie De Groote. To this union eleven chidren were born, ten of whom survive him.

The five daughters are: Mrs. Will Tellier of Humboldt, Mrs. Mary Pease of Bradgate, Mrs Della Hutchinson and Mrs Edna Grimm of Gilmore City, and Mrs Hattie Chapman of Bradgate.

The five sons are Fred Cook of Laurens, Frank and Harold Cook of Rutland, Carl Cook of Humboldt, and Archie Cook of Crawford, Neb.

Only a day or so before the death of his father, Fred Cook of Laurens startd on a trip to the Black Hills on a vacation. Both he and Archie, of Nebraska, will return for the ceremony. Funeral services was held at 2 p.m. Monday at the E.S. Pease home in Bradgate. The Rev. Fletch of Gilmore City preached the services.
