George Robert Helmers
Norwalk

George was born on February 26, 1928 in Hardy, Iowa and passed away after a long battle with cancer on January 20, 2013 with his family and friends by his side. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 22 at Caldwell-Raddatz Funeral Home, 8201 Hickman Road Urbandale. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 23 at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, IA.

George was well known and respected in his life long career in the sewer/construction business. George is survived by his daughters, Suzy Mrzena, Patty (Gary) Bishop, and Vicki (Jeff) Farrell; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; step children, Ernie (Shawna) Bunch, Kathy Wyman, Diana (Darren) Bunch, Cindy Beaton, and Russell Bunch; many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by 2 wonderful women, Barbara Howard Helmers and Colleen Azbil; brothers, Henry, Harold, Ralph; and sister and best friend, Dorothy Fairbanks.
