Jan 24, 1907 - Humboldt Independent - Harry French, the bright young man, aged fourteen years, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.C. French, of O'Reilly, Miss., some fifteen miles east of Greenville, died in Greenville Friday, January 17th.

The splendid youth was stricken with illness some days ago and his parents brought him to Greenville and had him placed in the Kings Daughters Hospital; but the intelligent care which was given was of no avail. The death came at seven o'clock. The physicians stated that he died from peritonitis. The remains were embalmed at Sommer's undertaking parlors and shipped to Humboldt, Iowa, for interment this morning. Mr. and Mrs. French have the sympathy of all in their sad loss. Daily Democrat, Greenville, Miss.

Harry Howard French, son of Elmer French and Nora Howard French, was born at Mankato, Minn., June 17, 1892. His early days were spent in Iowa, but during childhood his parents moved to Mississippi. On account of the absence of school priviledges here, a part of his time was spent in the North where he attended school. Although greatly handicapped by these disadvantages, because of his ambition and tireless efforts, he was fully as well advanced as the majority of his age and always at the head of his class. He attended Pella College, Pella, Iowa, the year beginning September 1905. During the summer of 1906, while at his home in Mississippi he suffered a congestive chill, since which his health has been poor. On Thursday he was taken violently ill and on Saturday was taken to the hospital at Greenville, where death occurred Friday evening, January 11, 1907.

His parents and grandmother were with him. Services were held at Greenville, Sunday morning after which the grand-mother, Mrs. French, started North with the remains. The services at Humboldt were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred C. Lovrien, Wednesday afternoon. Appropriate and beautiful music was furnished by the Kettman quartette. A short but fine address was given by Rev. Chas. Wright of Tampico, Illinois. Burial took place at Union Cemetery where the remains will rest by the side of his mother. The life which has passed afforded a most beautiful example of affectionate, dutiful childhood and Christian youth and as such will live on.
