10-30-1913OLD SOLDIER GONE
Edward Ryan was born in Indiana in 1841. Later coming west he lived in Wisconsin and Iowa. In the former state he enlisted in Co. F, 20th Volunteer Infantry and served in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Texas. He had previously served in an Iowa regiment, the 19th Infantry, and was at the battle of| Prairie Grove, Missouri, we understand. He returned to Wisconsin at the close of the war and soon after came to this county (in 1866 we think.) He continued his residence here in this neighborhood until his death. He bought property and lived in Dakota City the past several years. He died on Wednesday of last week [22 Oct 1913] and was buried in Union cemetery Sunday afternoon from the brick church in Dakota City, Rev. H. W. L Mahood leading in the services. The G. A. R. of Humboldt, of which he was a member, performed the services in the simple manner observed in all cases at the grave.
