WILLIAM GAMBLE
William Gamble was born near the city of Belfast, Ireland, July 5,1838 and died June 2, 1911, at Sellwood, Oregon. His parents Andrew and Sarah Gamble came to America when William was five years of age and located at Skaneateles, Onondaga county, N. Y. He learned the printer's trade in the offices of the Skaneateles Columbian and Democrat, he was foreman of the Democrat in 1862, when he enlisted in Company G, 149th N. Y. Infantry. He was in the battles of Chancelorsville, Gettysburg and other battles of the regiment. He was severely wounded at Wanhatchie Valley in a night attack, at the foot of Lookout Mountain, in October 1863. He was honorably discharged at Elmira, N. Y. in 1865. He returned to Skaneateles and remained until 1871, when with his father, mother and sister, he came to Humboldt county, Iowa, and settled on a farm in Corinth township, where he lived until he moved to Humboldt.

In 1909 he went to Oregon. He was unmarried and is survived by two brothers, John of Auburn, N. Y. and F. H. of Humboldt.

The body arrived in Humboldt yesterday accompanied by Hugh Hollingsworth and was taken in charge by Funeral Director Duncan and was held there until today. The funeral took place at the Congregational church this p. m at two o'clock. Members of Albert Rowley Post G. A. R. No. 193 assisted the pastor in the services, and the burial took place in Union Cemetery.
