Special to the Republican—
BODE, Iowa, September 19—[1933]
Funeral services for O. J. [Orrin J.] Conklin, Civil War veteran, were held Saturday

Haavik officiating. Interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery.
Mr. Conklin, eighty-eight years old, died at the Mitsven home September 13. Death was caused
by infirmities of old age. He was born August 18, 1845, at LaGrange, Wisconsin. He enlisted in the Civil War at the age of seventeen and served three years as a harness maker. In 1878 he was united in marriage with Mary Thompson of Lake Mills, where they lived for three years after their marriage.

In 1881 they moved to Livermore where he maintained a harness shop until seven years ago when failing health forced him to retire and he came to Bode to live with his daughter. His wife preceded him in death four and one-half months ago. He leaves to succeed him five children, Mrs. lone Miller of Fort Dodge; Alfred Conklin of Sacremento, California; Mrs. Minnie Plunkett of Chesaw, Wash.; L. J. Conklin of Chicago; and Mrs. Leota Mitsven of Bode. He also leaves one sister in Virginia and one in Wisconsin, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
