Mr. Belcher was born in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, May 2nd 1844, and died at Humboldt, Iowa February 26, 1910. He came to Wisconsin in 1864 and in company with the Dr. D. P. Russell family, Mrs. Russell being his sister, to Humboldt, then Springvale in the fall of 1865.He enlisted, while in Wisconsin in Company B, 46th Wis. Infantry February 13th, 1865 and was discharged September 27th of that year, coming directly here, and from that time making his home almost continually in the neighborhood. He was married in August 1869 to Amorilla Jane Hill, who with their two children, Webb E. and Cora survive him.
Eck Belcher as he was more familiarly known might be termed on of the builders of Humboldt. At first he was engaged in teaming, bringing goods and supplies from Iowa Falls and Boone, then the nearest railroad points to Humboldt. Later he secured some land northwest of Humboldt, which he improved and disposed of. Again becoming a resident of Humboldt, he followed the calling of plasterer and mason till failing health stopped all labor on his part.
He was a member of Albert Rowley post G.A. R. No. 193, members of which acted as pall bearers , with a large number of the Post in attendance. The funeral services were held at the home in the west part of town. Rev. C. P. Wellman officiating clergyman. The burial took place in Union Cemetery.
