Miss Mary Ann Williams was born in Yorkshire, England, April 5th, 1829. At an early age she moved with her parents to America and settled in Rochester, N.Y. Later the family moved to Wisconsin where they lived for many years.

She was married to Mr. James Marchant at Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Sept. 25th, 1848. Six children blessed this happy union: Fred H., of Havelock, Ia., Aaron E. of Radcliffe, Ia., Mrs. Luella Fuller , of Bradgate, Frank J., of Bradgate, Hatty S., who died in infancy and Will J., of Radcliffe, Ia.

Mr. and Mrs. Marchant removed to Humboldt county in the autumn of 1868. They have resided in the county ever since, sharing the hardships of the early pioneers and participating in every forward movement of the early settlers.

While visiting at the home of her son, W.J., at Radcliffe, she fell and broke her hip. She had been poorly for some time and on account of her age but little hopes were held for her recovery. She lingered some time but the sad end came at last and she passed away early Saturday morning.

The funeral services were held at Bradgate on Sunday. The remains were interred in Union Cemetery. Mrs. Marchant was a kind and loving wife and mother. She was loved and respected by the entire community and by all the pioneers of the county.
