CEDAR FALLS-Irene Veronica Petrie, 97, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, Oct 9, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center, Waterloo, of natural causes.

She was born June 2, 1905, in Lehigh, daughter of Fredrick and Catherine Thiner Buscher. She married Ray De Groote in 1927, in Fort Dodge, and they were later divorced. She then married Melvin Petrie in 1940, in Fort Dodge, and they later divorced.
She was a homemaker.

SURVIVED BY: four sons, Dr.Kenneth (Philomena) De Groote of Cedar Falls, Virgil De Groote of Ackley, Marvin (Judy) De Groote of Waterloo and Gary Petrie of Chula Vista, Calif.; a daughter Carol (Merrill) Marr of Westchester, Pa.;22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret Passow of Claire and Marie Gilbert of Lakeside, Calif.

PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: nine brothers and sisters.

SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church,with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Hagarty-Waychoff- Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, where there will be a 5 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Note: Irene's real middle name was Philomena but she liked to use Veronica. After Irene's mother died, the family moved near Humboldt, where Irene grew up. Her first husband was born in Rutland. The town of Claire is misspelt, it should be Clare.
