Gilmore City Enterprise--Gilmore City, Iowa--September 20, 1917--Vol. 29,#52
OBITUARY: Margaret A. Campbell was born in Pennsylvania September 15, 1845 and died at Gilmore City, Iowa on September 12, 1917. She came to Jackson County Iowa when but seven years of age and grew to womanhood amid pioneer surroundings in a country where the land had to be cleared of trees before a home could be built or a crop raised. She married Robert Conwell September 15, 865 and they moved to Maquoketa, IA where Mr. Conwell was employed as a blacksmith. But failing health forced them to leave the town and a prairie home claimed all there attention until 1894 when they moved to Humboldt County, Iowa purchasing a farm near Unique. Here they made there home until failing health compelled them to retire, and they moved to Gilmore City in 1909. Mrs. Conwell was a patient sufferer for five years. Her death is the fourth in a family of seven brothers and sisters within the past 14 months and is the third death within four months all of them the result of the same disease. She leaves three children, fourteen grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren, besides many relatives and friends to mourn her passing. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Glen Squires, were held from M.E. Church on Friday afternoon, and interment made at the side of her husband's remains in the Marble Valley cemetery. Mrs. Conwell was a quiet, retiring, Christian woman and her influence will long be felt in her wide circle of friends. They mourn her passing, but not without hope, "for we know we shall meet in the morning".
The family wish to thank the many friends for their kindness to Mother during the last three years of her long illness. Also for the beautiful flowers that covered her grave. You all know how well she loved flowers. We appreciate your kindness. May the dear Lord bless you and yours, is the wish of her children.
