Ann M. Burgess, 78, of Cresco, IA, died on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at her home.

Ann Marie Dvorak was born November 28, 1945 to James and Agnes (Herold) Dvorak in Dubuque, IA. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1963. In Ann’s younger years, she lived in Florida and worked as a key punch operator on the first computers where NASA was located. While living in Florida, she participated in synchronized water skiing. Ann married George Burgess on February 26, 1965, and together they raised 4 children; Cathy, Wendy, Kristy and Shelly. Throughout her life, Ann drove a school bus and was a saleswoman for Filter Queen, Mary Kay and Melaleuca.

Ann raised and showed champion Pekingese dogs and raised horses of all kinds. The last breed she owned was Arabian horses. She enjoyed trail rides, was a member of the Winneshiek Saddle Club and the Flying Hooves 4-H group leader. She always looked forward to the 4th of July horse show. Ann also loved art and music.

Ann would be a tour guide with George on his Hawkeye Stages motor coach tours. They got to travel all throughout the USA, getting the opportunity to visit most mainland states. She loved seeing the changing colors in the Northeast and visiting Mackinac Island. They also enjoyed touring the Canada Calgary Stampede. George bought her the new house for their farm, where Ann had lived since 1973.

Ann is survived by her children Cathy (Jeff) Meinecke of Cresco, Wendy (Vince) Matthias of Sumner, IA, Kristy Burgess of Cannon Falls, MN and Shelly (Travis) Gibson of Cresco, 13 grandchildren Skye Meinecke (fiancé Dalton Himli) of Cresco, Reece Meinecke of Cresco, David Meinecke (Zoe Meyer) of Cedar Falls, IA, Daniel and Dylan Matthias both of Sumner, IA, Ava BurgessKlesner, Elizabeth Ogunkola, Osumare Burgess-Ogunkola all of Cannon Falls, MN, Montgomery Burgess, Tyler, Dakota, Danika and Justice Gibson all of Cresco. Ann was an amazing grandma, and was there to take care of the grandkids when they were sick.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George on March 10, 2010, infant son Clifford and infant grandson Brenden Meinecke.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco with Father Jacob Rouse officiating. Ann will be laid to rest at Oak Lawn Cemetery. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19th, followed by a visitation from 5-7 p.m. at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco. Visitation will continue from 10-11 a.m. Thursday morning at the church.

In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be given to the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home to go towards Ann’s funeral expenses.
