OBITUARY.
CAWARD.
Russell S. Caward was born in Canandaigus, New York, Jan. 12, 1852. In 1858 he moved with his parents to Whitewater, Wis., where he spent his boyhood days, coming to Cresco in 1868, where he spent the remaining years of his life. On April 2 1874, he was united in marriage with Mary S. Swenson. Mrs. Caward passed away Jan. 3, 1916. Mr. Caward is survived by two brothers and one sister, Mr. J. B. Caward of Mason City, Ia., Mr. A. H. Caward of Waterloo, Ia., and Mrs. Emma DeNoyelles of Cresco, Ia., and a number of nephews and nieces.
After coming to Cresco, Mr. Caward engaged first in the mercantile business and continued successfully for a number of years. He afterwards engaged in manufacturing and met with very substantial success and built one of the successful business enterprises of our city. Mr. Caward was loyal to his home town during all the years that he lived here. He was a man of fine business capabilities and met with the measure of success which his efforts merited. Mr. Caward was domestic, warmly attached to his friends and was held in high esteem by all who knew him, and the community has sustained a loss through his death.
After the death of his wife, Mr. Caward’s health began to fail and his ill health contin{u}ed until his death which came suddenly on Sunday evening, Jan. 6th, at the Congregational Church in Cresco where he ws attending service.
