After a long and serious illness Mike Smith answered the death summons Tuesday afternoon. Through the trial of suffering he showed great fortitude and was uncomplaining. He leaves a large circle of friends who extend the warmest sympathy to the heart stricken wife.

OBITUARY
SMITH.
Michael Smith was born near Watertown, Wis., June 30, 1856. He moved with his family to Iowa in 1869 and settled on a farm near Riceville. On July 5, 1886 he married Miss Ellen Kennedy, the ceremony being performed at Cecilia, Mr. and Mrs. Smith moved to Elma in November 1890 and made their home ever since.
Few men enjoyed more intimate acquaintance than this good man who passed to his reward July 17, 1917. He was a man of industry and strict integrity and possessed of a jovial nature that readily made his friendship welcome to all. He was patient in his sufferings as was shown in the way he bore up during his long last illness.
The funeral was held Thursday, July 19th from the Immaculate Conception Church, Rev. F. J. Gunn conducted the services and delivered an eloquent sermon in which he eulogized the memory of the deceased. Interment was made in the local Catholic cemetery.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, by one brother, Tom; and by two sisters, Eliza Snavely and Mary Eckert both of Waterloo.—Elma New Era.
