Liquor Causes Death of Young Man.
Harrison Wentworth died Saturday morning from the effects of liquor drank the Thursday previous. Young Wentworth started for the country in company in company{sic} with Alfred Woodward and both partook freely from a bottle of whiskey purchased by Woodard{?} and the former soon became intoxicated and unconscious, not being able to stand much liquor. They had got out of the buggy and as Woodward could not get Wentworth into the buggy he came back to town leaving Wentworth in the road near the old Upton school house. People residing near there notified the sheriff who went out and brought in Wentworth who never regained consciousness before his death. Woodward was placed under arrest for drunkenness and was placed in jail for a five days sentence. In the opinion of several attorneys, the circumstances of Wentworth’s death rendered Woodward technically guilty of manslaughter, but he has been released from jail as no prosecution of the charge has been commenced.
