RIDGEWAY.
OBITUARY—Charles Claude Morton, born Nov. 19, 1901, died April 27, 1917. On Friday morning, April 27th, relatives and friends far and near were shocked when the message came over the wires that “Charley Morton died this morning of peritonitis.” He was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Morton, of Orleans Township, was in his sixteenth year, and had been ill only one week, but all that medical skill, nurse’s care and the tender ministrations of loved ones could do to restore him to health again proved unavailing and at twenty minutes to two o’clock on Friday morning this young life came to an end and his soul returned to God. The funeral services, held at the home on Monday afternoon, April 30th, were conducted by Rev. G. M. Shoemaker who read from John’s Gospel, fourteenth chapter, and used as the sermon text, Isaiah 61:1-3, “He hath sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to comfort all who mourn, to give unto thee beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.” A quartet sang sweetly two very tender and beautifully appropriate selections. A large number of relatives, friends and neighbors from far and near were present at the funeral to pay their tribute of respect to Charlie, and to express their sympathy for the grief-stricken parents and sisters to whom the heartfelt sympathy of the community is extended. The body was laid to rest in the beautiful Oak Lawn Cemetery at Cresco, under a mound of flowers. The pall bearers were Ralph Davis, Ivan Watros, Elmo Howard, Vincel Neibauer, Scott Cameron and Charlie Burgess. The heartfelt sympathy of the entire community goes out to the grief-stricken parents and sisters whose hearts are sad and whose home has been darkened because of the passing away of this loved one.

NORTH ORLEANS
The Claude Morton home was saddened last Friday by the death of their only son Charley, who was sick only one week with peritonitis. Charley was the only grandson in the Morton family. He will be missed by all his relatives and many friends. The funeral was held Monday afternoon and the body was laid to rest in the Oak Lawn cemetery.

Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone in Oak Lawn Cemetery shows he died in 1918 which is obviously in error as this paper was printed in 1917.
