CRESCO - Charlotte L. Henkes, 81 of Mason City and formerly of Wabasha, Minn., passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 23, 2023 at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.
She has gifted her body to science at Mayo Clinic Rochester and a service to honor her life will be held at a later date.
Charlotte Louise was born January 31, 1942 in Cresco, the daughter of Harry L. and Ester J. (Herold) Henkes. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in Cresco, IA. Her younger years were filled with travel and exploration before settling in Florida. Charlotte found her niche, taking care of people with her talented cooking skills.
She worked in the kitchen of many hospitals, including St. Anthony’s Hospital in Florida. She returned home to Minnesota to care for her parents, working at St. Elizabeth's Hospital for 22 years until her retirement in 2014. To be closer to family, Charlotte moved to Mason City alongside her sister, Verna.
Charlotte enjoyed time spent in the garden tending to her flowers and plants. A faith filled woman, she found peace in the quiet moments. Her favorite time of year was Christmas, sharing gifts and presents with those she loved. Charlotte loved her family, including her many beloved dogs and cats over the years. She cherished time spent talking with her sister and afternoons spent with great-nieces and nephews.
Those surviving are her sister, Verna Dralle; her children, Eric (Renee) Dralle and their children, Zachary (Courtney), Ben, Ella (Tyler), and Jenna; and Rachel (Matt) Hollatz and their daughter, Olivia; as well as many nieces, nephews and many extended relatives.
Preceding her in death are her parents; brothers, Harold (Mildred) Henkes and Melvin (Marlene) Henkes; Sister Lea "Olive" Henkes, F.S.P.A., Shirley (Ron) Weis; and a brother-in-law, Darold Dralle.
