Joanne Larson, age 83, of Chester, IA, died Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at her home. Joanne Beverly Gobin was born March 12, 1940, to Murl and Ella (Linderbaum) Gobin in Lime Springs, IA. She attended school in Lime Springs where she graduated in 1958. While living in Lime Springs Joanne met Stanley Larson. They were married on September 3, 1964, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA, and together made their home in Chester. First and foremost, she enjoyed spending time with her family; she never missed an opportunity to see and enjoy her 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Through the years she could either be found taking care of one of them or at one of their school or sporting events. She was an avid reader (her daughter couldn’t supply books fast enough for her to read). Joanne was also very artistic and creative. This led her to take up woodworking; her pride and joy was her scroll saw. This tool allowed her to cut out patterns of holiday and other creations and paint their likeness beautifully. She was a farmer’s wife who was always there supporting Stanley whether it was taking meals to the field or feeding large groups at harvest time. She is survived by her husband, Stanley, of Chester, Iowa; son, Bruce (Lisa) Larson, of Stewartville, MN, and their children, Rachel (Tyler) Hanson of Grand Meadow, MN, and Ryan (Miranda) Larson of Kasson, MN; her daughter, Melanie (Clint) Fousek, of Chester, IA, and their children, Hunter Fousek of Cresco, IA, and Carter Fousek who is a student at Iowa State University; and her son, Daniel (Amanda) Larson, of Stewartville, MN, and their children, William and Lucas, both students in Stewartville; 3 great-grandchildren, Kinsley and Olivia Hanson and Josiah Larson. She is also survived by 2 brothers, Duane Gobin and Ronald (Linda) Gobin. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Marlys Matt and Shirley Wright; and 1 brother, Gordon Gobin. Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at the United Methodist Church in Chester, IA. Burial will take place at Chester Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, also at the Methodist Church in Chester and will continue for 1 hour prior to the service.
