Craig W. Ollendieck, age 52, of Cresco, Iowa passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at home with his family by his side.
Craig William Ollendieck was born January 24, 1971, son of Donald and Bernice (Hruska) Ollendieck in Cresco, Iowa. He graduated from Crestwood High School in 1989. Following high school, he attended college at Valley City State in North Dakota and RCTC in Rochester, Minnesota where he played football.
Craig was united in marriage to Laurie McConnell on May 17, 1997. They were blessed with two boys, Clayton and Garret.
Craig worked for Scholbrock Masonry; Protivin Builders and American Concrete as a pump truck operator. He hauled milk for Tim McConnell Milk Hauling every Saturday. In 2007 he started his own business, Ollendieck Construction. He did snow removal for some residential and local businesses in the winter months.
Craig’s pride and joy were his two boys, Clayton and Garret. Craig and Laurie enjoyed watching the boys in all their sporting events throughout their athletic careers. They especially enjoyed traveling to many college football games throughout the United States with Clayton attending college at Troy University in Alabama and Garret attending college at Indiana State in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Craig was a strong, hardworking man. He was a true handyman and had a knack for making things work regardless of circumstance. He loved snowmobiling with his boys and friends. He was the definition of hard work and grit and wanted nothing more than to present opportunities for his family. He loved all his family, friends, and employees that worked for him throughout the years very dearly.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years Laurie Ollendieck; sons Clayton Ollendieck and Garret Ollendieck; his mother, Bernice Ollendieck, brother Pat (Marlene) Ollendieck; sisters Donna Daniel and Julie Ristau (Todd Smith), brothers Kirk (Melody) Ollendieck and A.J. Ollendieck and his mother-in-law Mary McConnell and brothers-in-law Brian (Jill) McConnell, Bruce (Kim) McConnell and Brad (Amy) McConnell; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Craig was preceded in death by his father Donald Ollendieck; sister Bernadine Ollendieck; and father-in-law Frank McConnell; and grandparents.
A memorial mass will be held at Notre Dame Catholic Church Thursday, December 28, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Jacob Rouse officiating. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Notre Dame Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 27th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with rosary recited at 3:30 p.m. and scripture service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service on Thursday.
