Ronald (Ron) Kreitzer was born August 24, 1931, to Leonard and Nora Kreitzer near Ridgeway, IA. He graduated from Ridgeway High School, where he played saxophone in the school band. On a warm June night in 1955, Ron asked a pretty girl named Marie Gerleman to dance with him at the Inwood Ballroom in Spillville. Two years later on August 10, 1957, Marie and Ron were married. After honeymooning in South Dakota, they settled briefly in Ridgeway before establishing their family farm just south of Cresco in 1964. They spent many happy, busy, and memory-filled years raising three children on this farm: Dale, Keith, and Julie. In 2006, they moved to Cresco.

Ron was a social person, with many of his hobbies centered around friends and family. He loved listening to polka music (Czech Days was a not-to-miss event), fishing, going to The Inwood, driving the transit van, stopping by his sons’ farms to see them and their families, and playing euchre. No Christmas or family gathering was complete without Ron saying, “Well, I suppose we’ll play some cards now” and groups of four settling into folding tables for a few raucous rounds of euchre. That also included the occasional game of Uno or 31 with his four grandchildren. Like Marie, he was never too busy for them, and he also loved to tell stories about their dads growing up, while also teaching them a Czech word or two.

Ron was especially proud to be a farmer as he milked cows and raised purebred Duroc hogs for many years. He enjoyed working and caring for his livestock. Even after he retired from farming and moved in town, he still wanted to know how the crops were looking. He rarely missed a hog show at the county fair when he had grandchildren who were active in 4-H. He enjoyed going on many tractor rides with Dale and Keith on tractors that were once used on the farm but were restored and retired.

There will be a visitation at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco on Monday, December 18, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Visitors may also call one hour before the funeral service, which will be held on Tuesday, December 19, at 11:00 a.m. at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco, with Fr. Jacob Rouse officiating.

Ron is survived by his sons, Dale (Jean) Kreitzer of Cresco and Keith (Brenda) Kreitzer of Decorah; as well as grandchildren Jennifer (Chris) Yarber of Marietta, GA, Laura (Tanner) Wenzel of Lisle, IL, Ryan (McKayla) Kreitzer of Cresco, and David Kreitzer of Decorah; two step- grandchildren, Nate Farley of Faribault, MN, and Cory Farley of Nashville, TN; five great- grandchildren, Cameron, Claire, Brynleigh, Charlie, and Ella; and two step-great-grandchildren, Beardon and Natalie. He is also survived by his brother Wayne (Jan) Kreitzer and sister Colleen (Larry) Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Marie, and his daughter, Julie.
