FORMERLY OF CRESCO - Raphael “Bud” Albertson, age 95, passed away on April 30, 2023, at home in Iowa City, Iowa, surrounded by his loved ones.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 7, 2023 from 3-5 p.m. at Lensing Funeral Home in Iowa City. Funeral Services will be held at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, in Iowa City, Iowa, on Monday, May 8, 2023 at 10:30 a.m.
The son of Alfred Albertson and Emma (Balk) Albertson was born in Cresco, Iowa on Feb. 24, 1928. He graduated from Cresco High School and married Alice Belle Eaton on Sept. 11, 1946.
In Cresco, Bud started his career with Sears Roebuck at an early age. He had many interests. He played third-base fast pitch softball in Cresco and enjoyed duck and pheasant hunting. Bud and Alice belonged to the Cresco Country Club, where they enjoyed many rounds of golf with great friends.
In 1966, Sears transferred him to the Iowa City store, where he spent the remainder of his 49-year career. He was a longstanding member of the West Branch Golf Course since it opened in the 1960s. As an avid golfer, he was proud of his hole-in-one and was able to continue playing until the last few years of his life.
He enjoyed his annual May fishing trip to Leech Lake with his friends and family for almost 50 years. His smartphone skills were impressive, getting sports scores and following his family on social media.
Bud was very thankful for his neighbors on the Chatham Place cul-de-sac, where he lived for the last 23 years and served as a past cul-de-sac president. He also looked forward to his daily coffee group at the 1st Avenue Hy-Vee.
Being with Bud, even for the briefest moment, you loved him. His laugh (and he laughed a lot) was as infectious as his habitual humming. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, who lived a long and full life that was filled with love and laughter.
He always supported and encouraged his family and was so proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved sharing their many accomplishments with his friends. His presence will be greatly missed by his family and those who love him.
Bud is survived by his three children, Dianne (Gerald) Bouril of The Villages, Fla., Debbie (Jerry) Lehman of Iowa City and Steve Albertson of Prior Lake, Minn.; his seven grandchildren, Amy (Peter) Zancolli, Curt (Kathleen) Bouril, Casey (Renee) Lehman, Kyle (Christa) Lehman, Amber Albertson, Erica Albertson and Kelsey (Evan) Scrodin; and 10 great-grandchildren Jack and Cooper Zancolli, Caiden and Bella Lehman, Walker and Porter Bud Lehman, Jackson and Jace Scrodin and Timothy and Andrew Bouril.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice Albertson; his siblings, Angeline Heimermann, Luella Guillaume, Ervin Albertson, Clifford Albertson and Emma Jean Pfiffner; as well as his daughter-in-law, Deborah (Harris) Albertson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Iowa City Hospice, Regina Foundation or St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
