CRESCO - Marlene Mae (Klobassa) Dillon, age 91, of Cresco, Iowa, passed away at home on April 28, 2023.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 5, 2023 at First Lutheran Church in Cresco. A visitation will be held from 9-10:45, before the service. Memorials may be sent to: First Lutheran Church or Howard County Community Hospice.
Marlene was born to Rudy and Allene (Weers) Klobassa on Nov. 13, 1931, in New Hampton, Iowa. Her father, Rudy, passed away when she was two years old. Her mother later married Emil Ring. They raised Marlene and her identical twin sister, Lois, and Emil’s daughter Mayzee. They lived in Riceville, Iowa, where she graduated from Riceville High School in 1949. She received a B.A. Degree from Luther College and began her teaching career of 35 years.
Marlene and Glen were married on Dec. 30, 1954, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Riceville and recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. To this union Julie and Molly were born.
Marlene’s teaching career began in Riceville and then extended to Los Angeles, Calif. and Augusta, Ga. She returned to teach in Rudd, Riceville and Cresco, Iowa. She was a member of many reading organizations including, The Orton Society, which specialized in teaching reading to dyslexic students. She became a professional tutor for dyslexic students.
Her favorite pastimes were being on the golf course and enjoying summer vacations with her family. She loved playing bridge with friends and participated in local tournaments with her husband. Marlene watched the Cubs, the Packers, and of course, the Iowa State Cyclones with Glen. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Country Club in Cresco for over 50 years.
Marlene was exceedingly proud of her family. Those who will cherish their memories of her include her husband, Glen; two daughters, Julie (Rick) Lowery of Postville, Iowa and Molly (Mike Rieck) Dillon of Fort Madison, Iowa; three grandchildren, Amy and James Lowery and Sam Rieck; her twin sister, Lois Dinger, along with many friends, all who loved her and will miss her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, who passed at birth; and Mayzee Wright.
