Genevieve Ann Riehle “Genny”, age 71, of Cresco, IA, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, October 5th, 2022, due to natural causes.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 10, 2022, at Notre Dame Catholic Church with Father Jacob Rouse officiating. A public visitation will be held Sunday, October 9, 2022, from 2:00-5:00 p.m., at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco, Iowa, and will continue one hour prior to Mass. Genny will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Cresco following Mass.

Genny was born May 26, 1951, to Edward and Lillian (Korsa) Markovetz. She attended Assumption Catholic School and graduated from Notre Dame High School both in Cresco, IA. Genny met her husband Jerry Riehle and were united in marriage on August 23rd, 1969. To this union they had four children: Kellie, Kimberly, Ronald and Jenilee. Genny dedicated her entire life as a homemaker and was the foundation of her family. In addition to her tasks at home and helping with many needs of Riehle Decorating, she willingly put her wants aside placing Jerry, her children and grandchildren’s lives as a priority. As Genny checked off her hand written daily to-due list, she maintained her qualities as a beautiful, loving, funny, kind hearted, compassionate and true person to all she encountered.

Genny was devoted to God, Jerry, her four children and seven grandchildren: Benjamin and Alexander Gunderson, Collin, Dawson and Caiden Krause, Kennady and Avery Riehle. Her favorite, frequently spoken words to her grandchildren were “Love you to the moon and back!” Genny was an amazing wife, mom and grandma who was so proud of her family. It brought joy to her knowing her family was safe and happy.

There were many passions in Genny’s life including: Monday morning outings to the bank and grocery store, being outdoor sitting by the fire, mowing, gardening, working with her flowers and making people laugh. She would wind the day down on the deck or patio with a Busch Light in hand. Occasionally, she and the girls would make a special grocery store stop for “buns” which meant happy hour. During her spare time she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, I-pad games or catching a series on Netflix.

Genny was known for her extensive holiday decorating, her favorite was Thanksgiving. She loved this time of year in which she brought her daughters to an annual apple and pumpkin picking adventure to several orchards. She enjoyed researching new recipes, cooking, baking and making her special buns for the family. A simple gesture that Genny shared was welcoming all with the sweetness of her candy dish. Genny’s famous words that she quoted quite frequently were: “This Day,” “Oh My” and “Oh Wow”, these words will be forever treasured!

Genny is survived by husband Jerry Riehle of Cresco, IA; her children Kimberly (Nick) Krause and their children Collin, Dawson and Caiden of Rochester, MN; Ronald (Sara) Riehle and their children Kennady and Avery of Decorah, IA and Jenilee (Cory) Schnell of Cedar Falls, IA; son-in-law Jody Gunderson and boys Benjamin and Alexander of Hamilton, OH; sister Diane (Carl) Thompson of Bullhead City, AZ; sister-in-law LaRita Pierce of Cresco, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

Genny was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Kellie Riehle.

Genny’s strength and support bonded her family together. All those with broken hearts will desperately miss her. As we feel left behind by this unexpected loss, the underlying love we share with her is a true blessing we will cherish forever!
