John “Jackie” Amerson, age 86, passed away on August 16, 2022 at Accura Healthcare in Cresco, Iowa.

John was born on June 30, 1936 to Joseph and Pearle (Beaver) Amerson. He grew up in Cyrus, Minnesota. He attended Cyrus Public Schools. In November 1953, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served some of his time in France and was honorably discharged after serving for three years.

He was united in marriage to Elaine Krei on November 12, 1965 at the Lutheran Church in Alberta, Minnesota. The two shared fifty-seven years together. Fifty-five of those years were spent in Cresco.

John worked for Cresco Masonary (Wilkens Construction). He spent twenty years in the maintenance and housekeeping departments at the Howard County Hospital. John also enjoyed doing odd jobs for older people in the Cresco community.

John loved fishing and an occasional trip to the casino to gamble. He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings and playing pranks on family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Amerson, his mother and step father, Pearle (Amerson) and Ernie Gunvalson, an infant daughter, Marcie Ann Amerson, grandson, Nicholas Allen Putnam, brother, Robert Amerson, brother in-law, Leroy McCarroll and two cousins; Gerald Burns and Christina (Burns) Berquist.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine of Cresco, two daughters; Jodi (Darrin) Walch of Postville and Geri (Doug) Amerson-Qualy of Cresco, a son, Joe Amerson of Waukon, sister, Charlotte “Putsie” McCarroll of Cresco, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two nephews and a niece.
