Raymond Vobr, age 96, passed away February 13, 2022 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, Iowa.

Raymond Charles Vobr was born June 7, 1925 near Cresco, Iowa to Charles and Mildred (Mertl) Vobr. He received his education at various country schools. Family was important as he grew up on Howard county farms with his three brothers and two sisters. On March 17, 1946, he married Mary Ann Blaser at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco, To this union three children David, Dennis and Diane were born.

Ray and Mary Ann farmed near Cardinal Marsh until purchasing their farm on Willow Avenue in 1959. This farm had a history for Ray since he had lived there previously when his father had rented it when he was a child.

The great outdoors called to Ray and Mary Ann often. Some of their most enjoyable times were spent camping and fishing with family and friends. He passed along the love of deer hunting to his sons and grandchildren. A hobby that Ray and Mary shared was going to auctions. They would buy furniture and Ray would would refinish them. He was also a skilled wood worker and made many frames for Mary Ann’s cross stitch handiwork and quilt racks for her crocheted blankets.

After Mary Ann passed away on April 16, 2000, Ray was feeling really lost without her. While attending an auction, a lady that Ray and Mary Ann had met at previous auctions approached Ray with an inquiry about refinishing a cabinet for her. Their friendship deepened into love and on May 1, 2003, Ray and Alnora (Speltz) Johnson were married. They enjoyed their years of camping and fishing and occasional trips to the boat where they were often lucky winners.

Ray is survived by his wife, Nora; his children David (Janet) Vobr of Marion; Dennis (Rhonda) Vobr of Cresco; and Diane (Jeff) Johnston, of Crawfordsville; five grandchildren Stacy, Brent and Matt Vobr and Michelle (Duane) Tlusty and Brian (Melanie) Vobr; and seven great grandchildren Tanner, Tucker, Madelynn and Derek Tlusty and Isabella, Bailey and Parker Vobr.
