Funeral Rites
For Mrs. Howard
Held at Cresco

Many Church Dignitaries are Funeral
Of Mother of Archbishop

Archbishop Francis Joseph Beckman, Archbishop Matthias Linehan, Bishop Henry P. Rohlam, and Bishop Francis Kelly of Winona were in attendance at the funeral of Mrs. Marie Howard, mother of Archbishop Howard D. Howard of Portland, Oregon, which was held Monday morning at 10 o’clock, in the Church of the Assumption, Cresco.
Monsignor and priests from all over the state, as well as a number from the west, likewise attended the funeral.

Archbishop Howard pontificated at the Solemn High Mass of Requiem sung in the church of the Assumption at Cresco at 10 o’clock, and officiated at the burial services in Calvary Cemetery. The Most Rev. Bishop Francis J. L. Beckman of Dubuque, gave the final absolution at the church. The sermon was delivered by the Very Rev. E. J. Dougherty, pastor the Cresco church.

Mrs. Howard was a native of Illinois, but lived in Cresco until she came to Dubuque when Archbishop Howard became a member of the faculty of Columbia College. She resided at Davenport during the time he served as auxiliary bishop of the Davenport See, and with the evaluation to the Arch-episcopal See of Portland, she moved to that city. She died suddenly in Portland last week.

Master of Ceremonies, the Rev. J. A. Theobald and the Rev. E. A. Fitzgerald, Columbia College.

In 1867, she was married to John Howard.
